Published by Rob May and Jason Calacanis, the newsletter does a great job of distilling down the top headlines. Moving from Connected AI to Embedded AI

One of the most interesting articles to be included on the newsletter was a link to a report on the growth of embedded AI. Today, most AI platforms rely on an internet connection and a companion cloud service to process data and/or run the “AI algorithm”. However, as the article reports, the shift to “embedded AI”, where the AI capabilities are onboard the device (mobile phone, machinery, etc.) will grow from 79 million devices in 2017 to 1.2 billion by 2023.

This will usher in a new era of AI capabilities that will improve an individual’s, or a system’s ability to make the right decision at the right time. Consider this in the case of self-driving cars, which already utilize embedded AI. This is a particular area that we are deeply interested in, often what we also call “Edge AI”. Stay tuned for more…
